I'm missing instructions for what to do with previous portage ebuilds. Code listing 3 of the Portage User Guide shows how to update Portage in /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage after doing an but I haven't been able to find any reference to cleaning out the old portage directory.
In my case the aforementioned directory now holds portage-2.0.37.ebuild and portage-2.0.38.ebuild. Doing Code: | emerge --clean rsync | doesn't do anything to eliminate the old ebuild. It doesn't seem that this directory needs to be present anymore, or does it? I didn't see any instructions in the Portage Manual about this and nothing in this forum either as far as I could detect, so I apologize if it's been answered before -- it does seem like an obvious question after all.
Thanks for an answer. |

Just give it some time: the portage tree often contains a few extra versions of ebuilds in case some people have trouble with newer ones. They're small, and their presence won't cause you any harm. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
