from what I understand blender is a 3d modelling and animation program, yeah ?

if so I'm extremely eager to have a play with it - does anyone know any good tutorials, or tips or howtos on how to use it ?

and thoughts on what you can and can't do with blender ?

that would be sweeet!

thanks!

Blender comes with a manual, look at /usr/share/doc/blender-2.23.

If you're serious about learning blender I would recommend buying The Blender Book or The Official Blender 2.0 Guide. I'm usually the last person to recommend a dead tree copy of a book, but the on-line tutorials can be a little lacking (or incomplete). The books seem to me to do a better job in explaining comcepts.

I know how to use it, well some of it I have the manual and it helps big time but the tutorials will get you started. Since the comercial version of Blender died the blender.nl sight doesnt have anything but its web presence is slowly coming back as it prepares for an open source release next month.

A good source is
http://www.elysiun.com/
you should be able to find some links there to some tutorials and there is an active forum for questions.

And if you need something more powerfull for polygon modeling try Wings3d at www.wings3d.com, Wings3d can export to a format the Blender can import.

Also
www.blender3d.com
http://blenderchar.weirdhat.com/
http://pages.prodigy.net/rfairhurst/hotkeysofblender.htm
http://www.elysiun.com/viewtopic.php?t=4624

Should be enough to get you started, its a steep learning curve but its fun once you get past the interface shock of what does what.

Martin

Just graduated. Created this game with blender:

http://robocock.hku.nl/

if you have any questions, specifically on realtime 3D / box modelling / texturemapping, feel free to drop me a line

It's a bit steep to begin with, but once you get a hang of the interface, you'll love modelling in it.

It's very important that you start by reading this document if you want good answers.
After you have read that, you can follow one of the following links:
