|

Why does emerge sometime fail to pick up on dependecies? I recently emerged transcode & 2 depency packages were missed (1 was to new and the other was missing) which I had to install manually. Is this because the transcode ebuild was not done correctly ? |

What version of the Gentoo install are you using? Building from stage 1, 2 or 3? Portage version?
I ask because of this:

What was the version of Gentoo? Also doing this over you internet connection leaves alot of chances for things to go wrong whcih would be out of your control. Don't get me wrong, I think its a great idea but still not 100% effective. Also there is the whole thing going on with RSYNC, or the CVS (whichever or both). Not sure exactly how it works yet |

The basic answer to your question is this:
ebuilds are created by the gentoo developers who are, AFIK, humans and prone to error. If the developer didn't get the dependancies right, open up a bugzilla report so that others don't have to slog through the same problem. _________________ Collins Richey - Denver Area
