What are love-sources? This is as far as I know...

How different are they from gentoo-sources, etc.? Why are they called love-sources? Is an ebuild available for it? Or am I just thinking of it in the wrong way?

It's named after Lovechild, who was the original author if it. Its is much more experimental than gentoo-sources, which tends to only add very production-ready patches.

Really now... Gentoo sources aren't even in the same bracket as love-sources if you ask me. It's more likely to be found somewhere around the mm-sources territory, so to speak.

...and some of the Gentoo developers seem to have got their knickers in a twist over them:

Love-sources was mainly meant to get a good 2.6 kernel for
the desktop. we ship runtime selectable IO schedulers, the Nick
Piggin Scheduler Policy patch and a few other goodies - it's
based on the -mm kernel so it has all the goodies Andrew is
shipping as well as any patches flowing around on lkml right
after an -mm release to handle compile problems, etc.

also, the latest versions have the latest alsa version and
the vesa_fb hack for higher refresh rates when using the
framebuffer device with an nvidia card, as well as reiser4,
sometimes the evil supermount and more..

why not give it a whirl? it might be love at first site

Not that I condone the use of love-sources, but aren't all kernels YAK?
Except maybe vanilla... ;)

Love-sources is very aggressive (and experimental) in memory management (read: IT ROCKS!).

It's not too many patches that make it unstable. It's the patches that actually make it into love-sources that are ustable. Love-sources includes patches that need a testing ground and can't find it anywhere else. Because they aren't as developed as the mainstream kernel, they wil be slightly unstable.
