I tried booting the 1.4_rc1 cd and it goes ok for a little while but starts scrolling alot of:
PP_addr=0xffff
eth0: Invalid Address 0xffff
then hangs on a line similar (foget it exactly)
cs298x0: cs2980 or cs2982 not found. Please disable PnP in SETUP
I have a ecs k7s5a motherboard with onboard SiS LAN. On the previous version of gentoo the SiS900 module worked for it.
Any Ideas? |

welcome to the forums :)
this is infact a know issue and has been reported a couple of times already ... the kernel on the current iso's is actually not complete and is missing lots of drivers which should be on such cd ... but you dont need the current iso's to install gentoo 1.4, you can also use the older (and working) 1.2 iso's ... see my posting in this thread on how do the installation with it.
and please read the forum guidelines :) _________________ A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems. ~ Alfred Renyi (*1921 - †1970) |

Interesting. I just installed 1.4 last night on the same board. I didn't see any errors. I tried to modprobe the sis900 driver, but then realized that the install disk had it built in. Perhaps all ethernet devices are built in to the install kernel?
I don't use the onboard sound, however. Try and disable it, at least until the install is finished. |
