Hi!
I have a Tyan's s2880 board with PDC20387 SATA/SATA RAID controller, and I would like to know what will I need to utiliaze it (SATA only, I will use kernel's sw raid).
So, am I all set, if I just plug a sata drive to it and start using it? Currently I am using 2.6.3 kernel with Andi Kleen's patch x86-64-2.6.3-1.

lspci -v shows me:
0000:03:05.0 RAID bus controller: Promise Technology, Inc.: Unknown device 3373 (rev 02)
Subsystem: Promise Technology, Inc.: Unknown device 6619

So would I need something else?

SATA stuff is quite new to me, so any help is creatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jani

Hi,
I have the same Controller on my ASUS kv8. I have enabled SATA Support for the Controller under
Quote:
Device Drivers --> Scsi Device Support --> Scsi Low Level Drivers --> Serial ATA Support --> Promise SATA Support

That seems to work. Dmesg showes me that it has found two Sata Channels. I don't have any SATA Device so I can't tell if it really works. I just wanted to test how much of my MoBo I got to work. :D

But I have also a question. On my Mobo there is a PATA Channel connected to this Promise Controller. Under Windows I can use it as an normal Ide Channel. Is there anyone who got it to work under Linux? I serched google and the only thing I found was a Driver for Kernel 2.4.

Thanks Mathes

First, use gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.3-r2 or later ...
it includes all the x86_64 patches, plus some.

Second, the PDC20387 doesn't exist (at least yet),
you probably mean PDC20378

And no, the PATA port on those mobos won't work
on the Promise controller, only the SATA ports, I do
not have one of those controllers to debug why myself.
