|
|
I don't understand this, myself... I have one BitTorrent upload running at 20KB/s, and I get terrible packet loss:
ashitaka@kamineko ashitaka $ ping 4chan.net (4chan.net is in my /etc/hosts-- when running BitTorrent, the packet loss is too bad to contact DNS)
PING 4chan.net (66.111.38.62) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=6 ttl=49 time=159 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=7 ttl=49 time=105 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=16 ttl=49 time=102 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=19 ttl=49 time=136 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=22 ttl=49 time=144 ms
--- 4chan.net ping statistics ---
23 packets transmitted, 5 received, 78% packet loss, time 22015ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 102.426/129.801/159.859/22.479 ms
Now, I kill the BitTorrent, and things are fine!
ashitaka@kamineko ashitaka $ ping 4chan.net
PING 4chan.net (66.111.38.62) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=99.5 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=2 ttl=49 time=61.6 ms
64 bytes from 4chan.net (66.111.38.62): icmp_seq=3 ttl=49 time=72.4 ms
--- 4chan.net ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2001ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 61.692/77.921/99.596/15.946 ms
ashitaka@kamineko ashitaka $
This has only been happening since I bought a new router.
Any diagnosis? _________________ Hard drives are flaky... it's easy to backup to CD-R... do it! |

if the upload is maxing out, you will experience packet loss.
Use some traffic shaper.
search for traffic shaper, you will get tons of info (is that good, i dont know) _________________ I do what I want, and that's what I do.

Gah, I've been trying to use this "wondershaper" thing, but it just tells me to read the README, and the README doesn't have any instructions for cable modems, only for dial-up. _________________ Hard drives are flaky... it's easy to backup to CD-R... do it! |
