I was once taught a rhyming rule to explain how to do a good New York accent. Somebody who went to school in NYC claimed that she was actually told this rhyme in chemistry class, but I am not sure whether or not she was telling me the truth:
Quote:
Do as you ought to;
add acid to water.

Bearing that in mind, check out this thread, which breaks the rule by adding water to Acid.

Anyone seen any other good coincidental juxtapositions of posters' handles?

Uhm, no. After reading about the rhyme "ought to/water" (oughter/water), I was expecing to find something typing related. Took me a while to catch that you meant usernames.

How much free time did you say you had? :D

I think he means a pronunciation of: oughtta/wawta. (It's kinda hard to type in regional accents/twangs/brogues.)

I think that the reference to the rhyme is 'add acid to water'. If you look at the thread, you will note that the user acid started the thread and later the user water posts in the thread. Thus, adding 'wtaer' to 'acid'.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm just saying that for purposes of how those two words apparently rhyme. To the non-New Yorker, they're close to rhyming, but not really. It's basically second nature to a nor'east coaster for those two words to rhyme, assuming you take my previous pronunciation explanation.

It's a bit of a stretch, but kdelibs build fails on 1.4_rc1 features a conversation between CheshireCat, who has an avatar that is not particularly cat-like, and wzzrd, whose avatar is a cat.
