I have an old Abit BP6 with dual 400 Celeron processors. One hard disk on the HPT366 (v1.22) (/dev/hde), one cdrom on /dev/hdb. I will be adding more disks to the hpt366 controller if I can get this to work.
When I try and run Grub I use root (hd4,0) and Grub fails to find the drive.
When I try to build the raid boot floppy I get an error 15, stage1 can not be found, so I can not seem to build the disk if I even need it ?
What do I need to do to use hpt366 and grub ? |

Grub's numbering goes 0,1,... for hard drives it can find. In your case, the root partition will be (hd0,0) rather than (hd4,0) since hde will be seen as hd0 by grub since it is the first hard disk.
I have a VP6 with my hard drive on hde and CD-ROM on hda. Grub sees hde as hd0. You can also tab-complete in the grub prompt; e.g., if you do "root (hd<TAB>" at the grub prompt, it will autocomplete drive names. |

I'm assuming setup(hd0) ?
Nice tip BTW on using tab !
I will try this as soon as I get home |

Yes. But don't use tab complete for the setup line though (it will complete to setup (hd0,...), which you definitely don't want)
