After fixing the spelling-causes-abortion problem by uninstalling aspell, I once again finy myself thinking that the 0.9 series was a lot more stable than the 1.0 series of Abiword, as it now crashes whenever it's told to do anything even remotely smelling like printing, which includes printing to a file. I get a load of rubbish about alsa sound cards in the terminal window when it starts up, which I believe has something to do with the recent upgrade to 0.9_rc1 of the alsa drivers, and esound not quite following suit. It starts ok, though, just no sound, but as soon as I try to print anything, be it to a printer or to a file, I get the GNOME crash dialogue telling me it's segfaulted. Charming.

Er... I'd be really nice if I could print my report that's due in yesterday, please.

I would have to agree on this; I'm testing 1.0.2, and it seems that about 50% of the menu options cause a segmentation fault.

This includes printing, print-previewing, saving, etcetera.

Thank god for enscript and vi... :)

I used to have all kinds of printing trouble (crash with preview, or attempt at print from the menu) with an older version of abiword (pre 1.0). I put it down to using TTF fonts, and unmerged abiword because i couldn't live without those.

But now I have 1.0.2 running fine with the microsoft fonts. The difference, other than version, is i have no gnome. So maybe try emerging without gnome related use variables.

I have not had any trouble with saving though (and don't want any :) ).

The printing problem at least is indeed gnome related.

Code:
export USE="-gnome"
emerge abiword
