linux-header 6.18 but gentoo-sources 6.12

will there be any issue for linux-header being 6.18 while gentoo-sources being 6.12?

emerge sync is getting 6.18 linux-header and my gentoo-sources is 6.12.58

any foreseeable gentoo-sources update in recent time?

No. 8)

On the contrary, glibc upstream recommend it to use the newest linux-headers ->

sys-kernel/gentoo-sources was updated to offer 6.18.x and 6.19.x as the corresponding upstream versions came out. However, as those are not considered LTS upstream, they are only given the testing keyword in Gentoo.

6.18 is technically LTS and is due to get marked "longterm" pretty soon on the kernel's site -- and we are thinking about stabilizing it maybe soon'ish (not that we necessarily stabilize LTS branches right away, only when we feel they're solid enough a few versions in).

Either way, linux-headers and the running kernel do *not* need to match and this isn't something users should feel concerned about.

fwiw I was referring to the main page where it still says "stable:" rather than "longterm:" as of the writing of this, but yeah. That it was the next LTS is always decided a long time before that's done.
