Ruslan Baskou,

Welcome to Gentoo Forums! :D

If you don't receive a reply, it doesn't mean that nobody has read your post. It may be that nobody can help you, or that the information you provided was insufficient to help.

Please read my notes on the forum in this chapter:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... _recommend

Unfortunately, we don't know anything about your system and we don't know whether you are using our Gentoo distribution kernel or a kernel you have configured yourself. What is almost always needed is the output of “emerge --info” and, in your case, also “dmesg”. We may even need the .config. See also this article:

Based on your kernel .config, I can see that you have experience configuring kernels. Unfortunately, some things are missing. You have probably already booted with our GentooLiveCD and then checked whether your Logitech works. If so, you have certainly used "lsmod" to check which modules have been loaded. Unfortunately, this does not show you everything, because some things are statically compiled into our dist-kernel. For example, some of the most important modules - because they initialize certain hardware components; e.g., bluetooth - are not enabled:

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_X86_INTEL_LPSS is not set
I would also enable the following:

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_X86_REROUTE_FOR_BROKEN_BOOT_IRQS is not set
# CONFIG_X86_MCE is not set

# CONFIG_I2C_I801 is not set

# CONFIG_PINCTRL is not set

# CONFIG_LPC_ICH is not set
# CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_ACPI is not set
# CONFIG_MFD_INTEL_LPSS_PCI is not set

# CONFIG_I2C_HID_ACPI is not set

# CONFIG_IOMMU_SUPPORT is not set
You may also be interested in these two articles:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... figuration
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... rsion_6.12

BTW: You should change this also to 4:

Code: Select all

CONFIG_NR_CPUS=2
because of:

Code: Select all

[ 0.058258] smpboot: 4 Processors exceeds NR_CPUS limit of 2

Ruslan Baskou,

Welcome to Gentoo.

Your Trackball appears to be supplied with a Unifying USB receiver, so it should appear in

Code: Select all

lsusb
and dmesg.
We don't know about lsusb yet but I don't see it in dmesg.

Code: Select all

Bus 005 Device 003: ID 046d:c534 Logitech, Inc. Nano Receiver
is my Unifying USB receiver.

That implies a bit missing from your kernel, as no drivers are required to read the Vendor and Device ID.

Your kernel

Code: Select all

Linux version 6.1.140-gentoo
is old. Current stable is 6.12.y. A kernel update is in order but that is probably not your problem.

We need your

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk
so we can see your hardware and your kernel .config file, so we can see what you have in your kernel.
The .config file will not fit in a post. Please use wgetpaste.

-- edit --

My dmesg shows

Code: Select all

[ 15.126803] usb 5-2.1: Manufacturer: Logitech
which must be the unifying receiver as its the only Logitech device I have.

NeddySeagoon

May it be that problem appeared by setting manually modules=y. I used make allnoconfig to have clean installation.

Ruslan Baskou,

Only your USB2 hubs have Kernel drivers

Code: Select all

Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci
Not your USB1 hubs, so nothing connected to them can work.

Code: Select all

00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 [8086:3a37]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1a.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 [8086:3a38]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1a.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 [8086:3a39]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1a.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 [8086:3a3c]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
   Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci
00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:3a40]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1c.2 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 3 [8086:3a44]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:82d4]
00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:3a34]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1d.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:3a35]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1d.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:3a36]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
00:1d.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 [8086:3a3a]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d4]
   Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci
You need to set

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD is not set
in your kernel.

Code: Select all

CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD=y
is the wrong sort of USB1 root hub.
If there is a

Code: Select all

CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD_PCI
You will need that too.

Code: Select all

CONFIG_UHID=y
Good
Add in

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_HIDRAW is not set

Code: Select all

CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD=y
# CONFIG_USB_XHCI_DBGCAP is not set
CONFIG_USB_XHCI_PCI=y
is for USB3 which you don't have.

Depending on your USB2 Root Hub hardware,

Code: Select all

 # CONFIG_USB_EHCI_ROOT_HUB_TT is not set
may allow USB1 devices to operate on your USB2 ports.

Code: Select all

CONFIG_HID_LOGITECH=y
CONFIG_HID_LOGITECH_HIDPP=y
Good.

I'm a bit confused—is this a Bluetooth device or a USB device (or does it use a USB dongle that turns it into a Bluetooth mouse, in which case you would also need the correct USB driver)?

After a more in-depth investigation, I see the following:

1. The Express Bus driver is missing here.

Code: Select all

00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port [8086:2e21] (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d3]
should look like this:

Code: Select all

00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port [8086:2e21] (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5Q Deluxe Motherboard [1043:82d3]
        Kernel driver in use: pcieport
(Probably a consequence of using “make allnoconfig” without subsequently activating the necessary drivers)

2. Now that all 4 cores are active, this note (which was previously missing) appears in the new dmesg:

Code: Select all

[ 0.760982] intel_pstate: CPU model not supported
This means that your CPU does not yet support Intel's P-State and therefore requires ACPI P-State:

Code: Select all

Power management and ACPI options --->
    CPU Frequency scaling  --->
        [*] ACPI Processor P-States driver
(check with "lscpu"; do you have "hwp" in the output of the flags? I guess no.)

3. You didn't read https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... rsion_6.12, otherwise you would have activated IOMMU correctly... CONFIG_PCI_MSI (and everything dependent on it) is missing ->
Chapter: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... 6.12#IOMMU

4a. You haven't read https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... figuration either, because the most important part is this chapter:

4b. These queries are a prerequisite for completing this section correctly:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... ce_Drivers

Let me quote from this chapter:

Code: Select all

# Disable this only if you really dont have a modern machine using USB 3.0
<*> xHCI HCD (USB 3.0) support
# If you have problems with your USB3 try to enable this ( see in this forums post: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1172434.html )
[?] Generic xHCI driver for a platform device
# If you have old USB 2.0 or 1.1; look into your output from: "lspci -k"
# If you dont find any module named ehci, ohci or uhci in your "lspci -k" you dont have it !
<?> EHCI HCD (USB 2.0) support
<?> OHCI HCD (USB 1.1) support
<?> UHCI HCD (most Intel and VIA) support
My recommendation:

Install a newer kernel (6.12; but 6.16.4 is also okay; it's completely stable for me) and start the configuration from scratch... for another reason as well:

You have Gentoo-hardened ... but no hardened kernel ... just read the Note in:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pieti ... _with_KSPP

Hopefully you didn't edit your .config but used “make menuconfig” instead... otherwise, please read this first:

pietinger,

It has a USB Unifying receiver. The radio link is unknown but that doesn't matter as there are no user serviceable parts there.
To all intents and purposes its a USB1 device like a mouse.

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
