Hello, so I am upgrading from a 7800x3d to a 9950x3d, what do I need to do before I install the new CPU. If possible I would like to do as much of the recompiling on the new CPU but I assume i will need to reinstall firmware kerrnel and microcode.fir the record I have March=native in my make.conf

Also any advice on any advice for getting things working the best with a dual ccd system

Actually no, the 7800 and 9950 both use the same /lib/firmware/amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam19h.bin file.

That will pretty much cover it, there are no "missing extensions" when comparing zen5 to zen4, just new ones added.

My understanding for the zen5 series is "it just werks", but I could easily be wrong. Enabling the active pstate driver and perfcore (amd_pstate=active amd_perfcore=enabled) on the kernel command line is always nice though.

I'd do a bios update first if one exists, but yeah, pretty simple swap in this case.
