Is anyone here using the "Realtek 8126VB 5Gbps"?

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

Is anyone here using the "Realtek 8126VB 5Gbps"?

Hi, I'm looking for a motherboard for my new PC; the cheapest that looks good to me is "MSI PRO X870-P WIFI", it has a Realtek 8126 Ethernet chip. I looked up this chip, and I see mixed results:
- People are complaining about it not working.
- People mention driver on the Realtek website, but I don't know which, or if it is in the Gentoo repo.
- Most probes on linux-hardware.org (https://linux-hardware.org/?view=search ... T8126#list) are failed.

Anyone here is using this chip and can share their own opinion on it?

Hello,

I faced the same issue and I was able to make it work installing the drivers from here:
https://github.com/openwrt/rtl8126

Don't know exactly how that fit into a gentoo installation but it should work normally.

I also work a blog post here that show to install it if you are not familiar how to install it from the sources:

Realtek does provide the driver on their website: https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=584 but only mentions kernel up to 6.9

Kernel 6.12.x certainly references an 8126A chip as part of the r8169 ethernet driver in code (but not in the menuconfig help).

I cannot comment on how well it works, but this is where you will find it going forward as this driver is continually updated with new RealTek ethernet chips.
