Hello,

First it would be nice to get the return of this command:

Code:
cat /var/tmp/portage/media-sound/audacity-2.4.2-r3/temp/build.log

If it's too long:

Code:
wgetpaste /var/tmp/portage/media-sound/audacity-2.4.2-r3/temp/build.log

Then, were you rebuilding world for the 23.0 profile upgrade ?

If yes, that might interest you, sadly it doesn't comes up with a fix it seems. Also you try to compile 2.4.2-r3 and not 3.3.3.

How did you proceed if it's related to rebuilding world from the 17.1 -> 23.0 profile upgrade ?

Also, that might be in you emerge --info command, but I'm not still in ease with it. Could you give us the flag used for audacity, if you touched them, please ?

And / or also (from gentoolkit package):

Code:
equery -u "audacity"

It will show us the flag used to compile it.

EDIT: For the record, it seems you are not alone. Posting it here because one topic might have a fix before the other, etc.

Regards,
GASPARD DE RENEFORT Kévin

I would not recommand to share info from a topic to another, it will be very confusing.

«Linking» them by stating they are related is probably enough .

I have the same issue. Tried bunch of different compilers (GCC13, Clang17, oneAPI based on Clang16 and oneAPI based on Clang18) and all show the same error.

Made quick patch but there are numerous errors with ffmpeg.h conflicting with /usr/include/libavcodec/avcodec.h
Patch /etc/portage/patches/media-sound/audacity-2.4.2-r3/fix.diff
Code:
diff -Naru audacity-Audacity-2.4.2/include/audacity/Types.h /tmp/auda/include/audacity/Types.h

 #include <wx/version.h> // for wxCHECK_VERSION

Disabling ffmpeg USE flag still fails but now due to some C++ rule violations...

...what I wonder is why I had Audacity in version 3.3.3 now wanting to downgrade to 2.4.2. On Audacity git the newest release is 3.4.2.

Personally I am skipping this "upgrade"

Well the cause of the downgrade would be https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=72e8c24fcd0beb997a88f7d185a02a212abafe37

There was a 3.3.3 stable. It was deleted and 3.3.3-r1 which is not marked stable is there instead. Hence 2.4.2-r3 is the latest stable.

Looks like 3.3.3 was stabilised for amd64 December last year. Definitely seems weird to do a major version downgrade after ~4 months.

audacity-3.3.3 built and runs just fine for me. Should I really downgrade?

ADDED by edit: update to 3.3.3-r1 ~amd64 went fine and runs/plays/works as expected.

Pretty sure that the removal of (former stable) 3.3.3 was a mistake, I think 3.3.3-r1 was originally meant to be "direct-to-stable" so it replaced 3.3.3 -- but then later in the PR they decided to keep the changes in ~testing as a safety... however 3.3.3 wasn't restored and it dropped people back to audacity-2.

Anyhow, I restored the stable 3.3.3 earlier, and 3.4.2-r1 is due to be the next stable in 30ish days from what I got.
