Interesting, running it as
Code:
[ebuild   R   ~] media-tv/kodi-20.3::gentoo  USE="X airplay alsa css dbus lirc nfs optical system-ffmpeg udev upnp vaapi vdpau webserver -bluetooth -bluray -caps -cec -doc -eventclients -gbm -gles -lcms -libusb -mariadb -mysql -pipewire -pulseaudio (-raspberry-pi) -samba -test -udf -wayland -xslt -zeroconf"
here.
There were some "annoyances" regarding extra granularity in settings being added and the defaults not being the same as the "old defaults" (and awful tearing when using an nv card), but I use [alsa>>jack>>hardware] as an audio backend.

The other thing of note here, as Kodi is the "main purpose" of the system it's running on, USE=system-ffmpeg and masking "unsuitable" ffmpeg versions might be a positive influence.
