This issue started several minutes ago when I was testing a Monero miner (xmrig installed with Portage) with a local node of Monero I was testing for few days. Of course the miner, Monero daemon, and any related program are not running and I have reboot the machine in case there was some in-memory cache, but still I am using all that RAM.

What could cause it?

Hello,
here's the output:
Code:
 ~ free -h
total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:            62Gi        61Gi       601Mi       138Mi       1.1Gi       1.0Gi
Swap:          4.0Gi       2.1Gi       1.9Gi

Found the issue ... and my brain memory is shit.

One page of the many I have read about xmrig suggested to add "hugepagesz=1GB hugepages=6 hugepagesz=2MB hugepages=244" to Grub; it seems it was the fault as I removed it and now my RAM is behaving normally.
