amd64/17.1/desktop -> amd64/23.0/desktop/split-usr

If anyone out there is attempting this migration with a mix of binary and source and runs into problems, merging usr first may be your only option.

I know the instructions from the news says:

"If you are currently using openrc, migrate to 23.0 first, keeping your disk
layout. If you want to move from split-usr to merged-usr, do that afterwards."

Well, that didn't work. However, once I merged usr, the whole process was super smooth.

My entire process was:

* Created a snapshot (so I could roll back if things went sideways -- glad I did)
* ran merge-usr
* changed profile to amd64/23.0/desktop
* followed the remainder of the instructions.

I still have the snapshot created on 17.1 before merge-usr was ran if a dev is interested in the logs when trying to do a migration without merging.

Luckily it was failing after only 100 or so packages on the full rebuild so it isn't a lot of time.

I do remember that the first error I ran into was bash not being found. Can't remember what program it was, but it was looking in /usr/bin and not /bin.

So, I created a symlink and tried again and it got further, but bombed again. It was obvious from the second error that again it was expecting /usr/bin so I just gave in and did a merge-usr at that point.

When the update was dropped, I believe that some binary packages had issues regarding this split/merged-usr thing. They fixed it after a while.

I did an upgrade yesterday with --getbinpkg on big packages (like gcc, webkit-gtk etc.) and compiled the rest. It worked out fine.
