just wondering if any new lto info i can get from gentoo
or can i test lto stuff or report any lto stuff?

i also have gentoo on metal.....emmmm....but nowadays most of them get inside vm though

Since gentoo upstream filters lto out, I'd consider the subject to be promptable on gentoo forum or bugzilla.

There is a LTOIZE repo supposed to integrate LTO into gentoo, e.g. when to filter it out, additional optimizations on a per package basis.

I wouldn't recommend it. Poorly maintained & lost of control are'nt good for me.

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

So not so portable iiuc, except if vbox fully emulates what ever CPU it is set too, whatever the host CPU is. Which I strongly doubt.

-03 should be cherry picked IMHO in /etc/portage/package.env.
Can't recall which classic package recently forced -O2 for likely good reasons.

One the main problem on gentoo with lto march -Ox etc settings is that it"s very hard to get the list of installed packages with tunable code generation scope.

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

you have a point here

that's why if gentoo would collect compile logs or some code generation stuff
i mean if gentoo accept some submission or something like that
then i guess i would submit my binaries and cflags and stuff like that
then gentoo would do something or process this kind of info
then gentoo would improve gcc/llvm or compilers like that
then more optimization could be done

just wondering......if this is something.....

You can use Emacs as a text shell -- it supports scrollback
