|
|
Hi,
Normally pressing ALT-F.. throws me back onto a console like the days, X11 was not available.
But I managed (how?) to loose this. When entering that magic key combo I only get
Linux ....<version>
Booting...
(or something similiar)
and no login prompt.
How can I get back my console?
Cheers!

Have you tried to switch to another tty?
Which init system are you using?
In sysVinit init, inittab is used to run various istances of getty (console login prompt). |

I hope you are not pressing ALT-F2 by habit. Recently default has shifted from running X11 on tty7 to tty2, so that console is blocked by X11. As was suggested to check - what happens on different consoles,
and do you see agetty processes running on several tty's in ps -ef | grep agetty ? |
