It seems there are so many ways to do it, so what's the best / not-abandoned?
[item]Nvidia drivers -- seem to be quite hard to get working nowadays -- kernel limited to 5.15.[/item]
[item]Bumblebee -- abandoned / obsolete?[/item]
[item]Nouveau -- does it work with multiple screens? Only for dev/email/WWW, not video/gaming.[/item][
What's best? _________________ Michael Mounteney |

Hi Mounty1.
According the nouveau site, "these cards [Quadro 1000M] are generally working with the latest kernel and Mesa but may still have power management issues", so it sounds like you'd be better off with nouveau if the nvidia driver is stuck at an old kernel. Can't you just test it and find out? If you're using the nouveau driver with an Optimus system I think you'd use Prime, as described here:

Yes, I saw that site and managed to ignore the typos. The closed-source Nvidia drivers are not-quite out-of-tree yet, but close-to and will be soon, so I am building a Nouveau-based system. ETA Thursday.
The kernel is still limited to <6 as the i7 CPU of the W520 is apparently at too low a level of ISA. _________________ Michael Mounteney |
