No desktop after powering off and on moitor

Hi,

I've just done a fresh install of gentoo + kde plasma.

I've set it up so that I execute 'startx' in the terminal after logging in.

After the power management has turn off the display pressing keys or moving the mouse does not bring the desktop back.

The same thing happens if I turn the monitor off and then back on again.

The only think I can do is to press the machines reset button or switch to another virtual terminal, log in and reboot.

Where should I look next?

Plugging in a DP cable makes the desktop come back :S
