Hello everyone,
Earlier today I had a mad desire to benchmark my system in Quake 3. It seems my frame rates are about 60FPS lower than what is reported elsewhere on the net for those with my vga chipset (GF FX5200). I think this could be to do with the fact that I'm not using the latest Nvidia drivers (that were possibly made with the 2.6 kernel in mind?? - I'm using mm-sources 2.6.3_rc3-r1)
Anyway, the problem starts after I emerge the latest masked Nvidia drivers, version 1.0.5336-r1. Both drivers, nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx, emerge fine - however X wont start with them installed. I get the following error:
Quote:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module is version 1.0.4480, but this X module is version 1.0.5336. Please make sure that your kernel module and all NVIDIA driver files have the same driver version.

I've tried unmerging then re-emerging, emerging them in certain orders and even unmerging, rebooting, then emerging them again. It seems to me that I'm barking up the wrong tree here ;)
X works fine using the unmasked drivers, version 1.0.4496, and I'm using them now - however I'd quite like to try the unmasked drivers as I'd love to milk some more frames outa this dodgy system.

Thanks,
Ted.
