To use QEMU with virt-manager I had to enable the IPv4 netfilter (IP_NF_IPTABLES, IP_NF_FILTER, IP_NF_TARGET_REJECT, IP_NF_NAT, IP_NF_TARGET_MASQUERADE and IP_NF_MANGLE specifically) in the kernel, otherwise it throws an error and I can't start a VM. However, I don't see any mention of this on the wiki. Did I do something wrong or is the wiki incomplete? |

QEMU does NOT need NETFILTER in the kernel. Neither QMEU itself, not the Gentoo ebuild.
NETFILTER is required by the libvirt ebuild IF the USE flag virt-network is enabled.
If you want to use libvirt without NETFILTER activated in the kernel, disable USE flag virt-network for libvirt. Some features of libvirt won't work - but if you don't need those features, it's perfectly fine to emerge libvirt without the USE Flag virt-network. |
