I'm trying to emerge portpeek, but Code: | Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 14 KiB
!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- media-libs/faac-1.30::gentoo (masked by: MPEG-4 license(s))
A copy of the 'MPEG-4' license is located at '/var/db/repos/gentoo/licenses/MPEG-4'.
| I'm still not completely confident with proper settings in /etc/portage/nake.config, /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords and /etc/portage/package.use.
I do have Code: | ## JGK 10/17/2022 for mjpegtools quicktime license
ACCEPT_LICENSE="MPEG-4"
## | in make.conf. Why emerge portpeek is complaining?

The easy simple solution might be ACCEPT_LICENSE="*", but I'm sure some will be upset. Still, it saves a lot of time. |

Please undo that change in make.conf. It will remove the defaults for all other packages.
Instead put this into /etc/portage/package.license (as a file named that or as a file under that if a directory):
Code: | media-libs/faac MPEG-4 |

You want to accept the Gates Private Licence (GPL) ?

I do not expect I'll be installing anything from teh Gates of Hell. I done it a few times the right way, but it's just a nuisance. I do not redistribute packages, I don't install things I do not need or know about. I just use it because like I said, it saves time. |

Thanks grknight.
I created the package.license file and moved entries from make.conf on separate lines. Now portpeek emerged quick. I even tested other license related entries with "emerge -p <package>" and no hick up.
Another good learning experience.
NeddySeagoon,
is that "Bill" as in GPL? |

jankom,
Its from a spoof website about Microsoft linux, which appears to have gone now. I can't even find it in the Wayback Machine.
It was very well done. _________________ Regards,
