I'm looking to set up Kubernetes on my Gentoo server, and I'm wondering what experience others have had getting things configured. I'm new to k8s from an admin pov, so any input would be helpful. I'll be starting with sys-cluster/kubelet installation and going from there. Anything else as far as system packages I should install? _________________ "What stands in the way becomes the way." -- Marcus Aurelius |

If it is a single node then sys-cluster/minikube and sys-cluster/kubectl will suffice.
It will create a VM
If multiple nodes maybe you will need
Code: |
sys-cluster/kubeadm
sys-cluster/kubelet
sys-cluster/kubectl
and ofcourse
app-containers/docker
app-containers/kompose

That's exactly what I'm interested in doing. A single node for use with our QA team. _________________ "What stands in the way becomes the way." -- Marcus Aurelius |

So basically you will need to emerge
Code: |
app-emulation/qemu
app-emulation/libvirt
sys-cluster/minikube
sys-cluster/kubectl
app-containers/kompose #### not necessary but its fun to convert docker-compose yaml files to k8s yaml files to deploy applications very easily.
|
After that all you need to do is run
Code: |
rc-service libvirtd start
minikube start --vm-driver kvm2
|
and your single node k8s is ready to use. _________________

Hello alamahant,
Out of curiosity, have you or someone you know setup Kubernetes on Gentoo before?
I'm looking to install a Gentoo cluster (one control plane and two worker nodes) with kubeadm.
I have a CentOS 7, Ubuntu 20.04 and an Arch Linux Cluster so far that I've built to help me practice. |
