Undefined reference to `_mcount' during kernel compile...

Ok. Call me newbie if you want.. But, during the last stages of make vmlinux, i'm getting the _mcount undefined reference.

This is a first compile of the kernel on this system.
I've done the following to get to his point...

booted from the LiveCD
dropped the recent experimental stage3 tar.bz2 on
emerge -Uu system
emerge -Uu sparc-sources
make menuconfig
make dep clean vmlinux

Any suggestions or help?
