I changed a Gentoo hard disk to a different laptop and I lost internet connectivity.
What likely happened? How can I resolve. I can't post any commands as I have no connectivity
Ip link shows lo, enp0s31f6, and sit0@none. Ifconfig shows enp0s31f6 and lo |

If you were using networkmanager, it should just work.
But likely if you switched to completely different hardware and were just using openrc to configure the network, the configuration script in /etc/init.d/net.$IFACE (where $IFACE=enp0s31f6) is not there, and the old computer's interface is still there. _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

I believe I am using openrc to configure the network.
Looking at /etc/init.d I see net-online, net.eth0 and net.lo. which is likely to be the old machines file? Can it just be deleted and then restart? |

Need to change that net.eth0 symlink to net.enp0s31f6, or create a new one pointing to the same place so it could boot on either machine but give a warning on missing network interfaces.
As a reminder https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Networking/Modular -- but it sounds like you inherited the disk? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

You'll also need to edit /etc/conf.d/net to use the new interface name. _________________ Andy Figueroa

Is it too hacky to write two udev rules to rename the two interfaces two the same thing, using MAC address matching.
It would be a horrible mess if both interfaces were in the same system at the same time. _________________ Regards,
