|

Hey guys,
I am trying to set up OpenCL on a Intel P1240 Framework laptop with integrated Iris GPU. I followed the setup steps at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OpenCL, however when running clinfo, I am getting the following error:
Code: |
$ clinfo
Abort was called at 341 line in file:

I saw that in the guide, but I am not sure what does it have to do with the error that I am getting. I've got dev-libs/intel-compute-runtime installed as well as virtual/opencl. |

I emerged the intel-ocl-sdk, but the clinfo still fails with the same error. Am I using it wrong? Is that the expected behavior and I need to use some runtime instead? Basically I want to be able to run software that can take advantage of the OpenCL, not necesserily write code that uses OpenCL (that's where SDK usually comes in, afaiu). |

I tried running Houdini (3d modelling software by SideFX which does take advantage of OpenCL) after the additional steps above and the behavior has changed. Now the application does no longer report OpenCL platform not found (or something like that), but crashes at start, the log file mentions the following:

It looks like it does see the OpenCL.so, but that's not good enough somehow... |

Could you tell which opecl/ocl related packages have you got installed?
Thanks! |

Thanks!
My software setup is basically the same as described above. I've emerged the latest (not 9999) version of the opencl runtime and the error is very similar to the one before, the number line changed a bit:
Quote: |
$ clinfo
Abort was called at 347 line in file:
/var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/intel-compute-runtime-22.35.24055/work/co
Aborted
|
I suspect that may be a driver issue, not supporting my hardware yet... |

Thanks! That fixes the problem of malfunctioning driver by removing it from the system. Now `clinfo` outputs:
Code: |
$ clinfo
Number of platforms 0
|
Which is what you would expect if there's no supported OpenCL devices on the system, I suppose...
I guess now I just need to wait till the driver is supporting my hardware? Is there anything else I can do about it?
Cheers
V. |

Doing some further digging, I managed to get OpenCL working, at least as far as `clinfo` is concerned.
I had to include the necessary firmware/microcode drivers into the kernel binary, made sure that there are no i915 errors in dmesg and it seems to be working.
Also ocl-sdk seems to be necessary for opencl (as far as clinfo is concerned) to run along Modesetting driver. |
