Decided to upgrade packages and kernel (last update ~30 days ago), after which network stops working.

nm-applet simply shows "device not ready" under wifi network, NetworkManager service status is "inactive".

For now I don't have much clue as to how to troubleshot this, any pointer is appreciated.

Few bit and pieces that I think might be related:

Network device is Intel AX200 Wifi 6 (x570 Aorus Master).

genlop -l on packages I updated today

[    2.813206] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: iwlmvm doesn't allow to disable BT Coex, check bt_coex_active module parameter

content of /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
Code:
options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0

Few things I tried but none solves the problem:

- The kernel update was from 5.19.0 to 5.19.8 (gentoo-sources), after realizing the network is broken, I tried switching back to 5.19.0.
- Tried downgrading to sys-kernel/linux-firmware-20220708
- dmesg complained about failing to load some regulatory.db - turns out I have been setting CONFIG_CFG80211 to built-in, changing this to module allows it to load successfully, however this doesn't seem to matter
- Everything is unblocked, looking at output of rfkill

Also a weird thing is I think my wireless interface was some "wlpXsY", X and Y are some numbers I have never cared, but now ifconfig shows it as "wlan0".

Please show the output of emerge --verbose --info net-misc/networkmanager net-wireless/iwd and, if you can get it, the USE flags of each of those packages prior to the update.

If I had to guess, you flipped the value of USE=iwd on networkmanager. There have been several threads here lately where people did that, and then networking stopped working.

This looks like a WARNING, not a crash. Something in iwlwifi triggered a kernel warning.

Although it is probably not related in this case, on principle I would suggest trying to reproduce the problem on an untainted kernel.

You switched from systemd's Predictable Network Interface Names back to the kernel's traditional device naming. This can sometimes break networking, if your tools look for one name and now you have the other.

Many thanks - ended up just adding `-iwd` USE to NetworkManager and it seems to work after reboot (simply restart the service didn't work).

Regarding "wlan0", sorry I didn't clarify why I mentioned it - I'm aware of Predictable Network Interface Names - what was weird is that I didn't switch it back. When my network was broken, ifconfig showed my ethernet device as "enp5s0" (as opposed to good old "eth0") but wireless one was "wlan0". So I'm suggesting whatever broken my network, it probably have assumed old interface naming somewhere.

Marking this as solved, found a related issue on https://bugs.gentoo.org/865017
