An update to hplip-3.22.6 didn't fix the problem.

I have run the program with the debug option.
hp-toolbox -g
no more info

Solved after an emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y -qv @world
has updated cups to cups-2.4.2-r2
I don't know if this will have influenced but I have also made the following changes in package.use
