Hi, I have laptop with older Intel cpu, with gpu that work the best with i965 mesa driver. I'm still using mesa-21.3.8 because i965 was dropped with in versions. I noticed there is a mesa-amber in tree, which I believe is a branch or fork of mesa where i965 support wasn't dropped.
I tried to emerge it, but mesa is soft blocking it, also I noticed that packages explicit depend on regular mesa, so they don't allow me to just replace it. I copy mesa-amber ebuild into mesa in my local repo tree, updated mesa to mesa-amber disguised as mesa, but sddm doesn't want to start.
How to use it? |

i965 capable machines should work with new mesa versions automatically using the crocus driver that is built with VIDEO_CARDS="intel"
crocus is the gallium driver replacing the classic i965.
Please try the new driver before trying this route. |

I unmasked mesa, updated it and depclean removed xf86-video-intel. After restarting sddm and logging in I noticed additional screen tearing. In addition to regular top and bottom are different frames, I get diagonal tearing: top right and bottom left are different frames, which is much more noticeable while doing anything. If I remember correctly this was the main reason I've masked newer mesa versions. |
