openjdk:17 builds fine here in this respect.
On the other hand openjdk:{8,11} don't.
The workaround here for openjdk:8 is achieved while performing 2 pass builds:
First with USE=jbootsrap and no lto.
Second with USE=-jbootstrap and lto:
