Hey folks,
I'm here with a gentoo install on my new laptop and I'm not being able to get my touchpad to work on X.
I've followed the gentoo wiki on synaptics, but I'm still having issues.
I've already:
1) included evdev, libinput and synaptics in INPUT_DEVICES
2) included "i8042.noloop i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.reset" in grub boot
3) added both synaptics and evdev into xorg.conf
4) Recompiled kernel with genkernel all (ugh)
Don't really know what else to do as it is working on the same hardware on an arch install.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks |

fishsemxpinha,
Welcome to Gentoo Forums !
We had a lot of threads with notebooks using touchpads with an I2C connection ... you probably have
libinput is correct, but you probably miss some kernel options. One way is to boot your (working) arch installation and check all used modules with "lsmod". Enable all these in your gentoo kernel ...
Other way:
1. Dont use the old wiki article for synaptics (=> remove all settings)
2. Remove also these command line parameters
3. Search if you find your notebook in https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Category:Laptops and do these kernel settings
4. Try all settings in my german guide for I2C touchpads -> https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8692426.html#8692426 (and forget my german sayings or translate with google) |

Thank you @pietinger
you're right. Seems to be a common issue and I've tried browsing through a bunch of them, but to no success (yet!).
You're also right that something is missing.
Unfortunately, my laptop is not coming up in that page.
The arch lsmod has a i2c_hid result, which gentoo does not.
I'll double check the I2C_HID flag, but I'm on genkernel all so I was expecting it to be set to yes. Let's see... |
