Does anyone know how to get 'ls' to display owner and group names longer than 8 characters? Is this a compile time option or can somthing be done after compilation? |

There are no restrictions as far as I know.
I did a quick test on my system:
1. Create a user called 'verylongusername'
2. Created a textfile and did ls -l
verylongusername $ ls -l
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 verylongusername root 11 Sep 16 21:21 testfile

What version do you have.
btw this is actually on a debian system right now. I was curious as to weather gentoo's ls actually worked since it was compiled and a configure option may have been passed... |
