I am not able to compile a proper kernel.
I get messages like "drivers/char/drm/drm.o(.text+0x6e86): undefined reference to `sis_malloc´"
The last line is "make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1"

Thanks,

Oliver Devoogdt

Checking out the Kernel HOWTO may give you some insight. As to your specific problem, I'm not sure what it could be other than not selecting enough or the correct options.

What kernel sources do you use?

I think your problem is with this kernel option:
Code:
make menuconfig
   Character devices  --->
       /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
       or/and
       Generic SiS support
       Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 DRI support)
       but probably this one:
          Build drivers for old (XFree 4.0) DRM (NEW)

depending on how you have it you could try to enable/disable/not compile as module...

I've got the same problem with the newest gentoo. (fresh install). It doesn't matter if I try to compile with sis drivers as modules or as in kernel, something breaks either way. I have a feeling this may be a kernal source problem (missing something).

FOUND IT! I did a google search and found Alan Cox talking about this very problem. Turns out that you need two of the flags turned on. (but I can't find the thread, so you will have to experiment.) Sorry for not having more info. I'll edit this again next time I have a chance.
