Amazon Prime Video : No HD

  • Quote

Post by Adrien.D » Mon May 30, 2022 6:05 am

Hello,

I can't have Prime Video with video in HD on Gentoo.
On Windows, i have HD.

I tested with Google Chrome, Vivaldi (with widevine USE) and the video seems to be in 480p and a pop up say to me i can't have HD.

I tested DRM support with this website : https://demo.castlabs.com/#/player/demo ... setId=1533
Youtube, Twitch works well in HD.

What is missing on my system to play Amazon Prime video in HD ?

Thanks

Adrien.D,

Do you need HDCP ?

I think that's a kernel option. Its High Definition Content Protection.
It's both a hardware and software thing. Your hardware clearly supports HDCP

Code: Select all

$ grep HDCP /usr/src/linux/.config
# CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC_HDCP is not set
That's for amdgpu. If you use a different kernel video driver, it may have its own HDCP knob.

Hello

This CONFIG wasn't active.
I updated the kernel and enable the option.

Same result

Code: Select all

grep HDCP /boot/config-5.10.117-gentoo-adrien
CONFIG_DRM_AMD_DC_HDCP=y
Tested with google chrome vivaldi (with USE wievine and proprietary codec) and firefox but no HD :'(

Adrien.D,

That just means that you won't get any help to make it work.

The Digital Restrictions Management is the same for everyone.
That HDCP option I pointed out was for amdrpu only. Its only right for you if you use the amd6pu driver.

Check the data/time in

Code: Select all

uname -a
That's the build date/time of the running kernel. Is it what you expect?

Adrien.D

Tell you browser to lie about the operating system its running on, so it tells Amazon what they want to hear.
How you do that is browser dependent but I expect your favourite search engine knows how.
