Hi,

I'm setting up a new laptop with an EFI stub. The laptop is a Dell Vostro 5620. I run all my laptops in configurations like this (EFI and root partition), but I believe the Dell firmware is giving me issues. The problem is, I'm getting the following message when I try to boot.
Code:

EFI stub: WARNING: [Firmware Bug]: LoadOptions is an EFI_LOAD_OPTION descriptor
EFI stub: WARNING: [Firmware Bug]: Using OptionalData as a workaround

And then the laptop just hangs. No Gentoo logos or even kernel output at this point, Dell logo is still on the screen where normally entering BIOS.

In the Boot Configuration settings of the BIOS setup:
- I can see the labels I made using efibootmgr in the boot sequence.
- I also have Enable Secure Boot - off
- Enable Microsoft UEFI CA - off
- Secure Boot Mode - Deployed Mode
- Enable Custom Mode - off

Anyone have any thoughts on what to do here?

Are you sure you have framebuffer(s) configured? We've been seeing lots of people with "hung" systems where the problem is actually that the kernel has nowhere to write its output.... See the wiki item.

Good catch, though I still get the initial warnings, I added early frame buffer support for NVidia and that gets the kernel going.
