a mess

i finally got gentoo/xp dualbooting on my hptraid, everything was running fine...now goddamn windows screwed up cuz of my crappy ass printer install and wont boot

i killed the windows partition in a fit of anger, but i did install my xp before gentoo, so i thought it should have the MBR(which doesnt matter cuz im booting off a secondary hd w/my /boot partition) and not fuss if i tried to reinstall it to the exact same place on the hdd.....but NO it wants to format my other partitions for no reason

i was wondering if anyone has had any success reinstalling windows AFTER gentoo

also, if i do decide to wipe the partitions again, i want to make sure i dont lose all the GODDAMN long compiling(stage1->kde), Is it as simple as just copying EVERYTHING to different harddrive and then back to the partition afterwords? or am i that much better off with just preserving the distfiles and <sigh>recompiling everything for the 3rd time....

i fear the worst from my previous data loss experience with ibmdeathstars......

thanks

  1. Win2K (~2G I think)
  2. /boot
  3. swap
  4. / (root)
I remember being surprised that it didn't cause problems, because I'd read many comments about Windows 'taking over' the boot loader.
