I run a home server on an old Threadripper x399 board. It has a pair of Intel I211 NICs. Lately I've noticed it occasionally becomes unresponsive over the network. Going over and physically replugging the ethernet cable seems to fix it, but obviously that's not ideal if I'm not at home.
I'm not even sure how to troubleshoot this. Nothing seems to show up in dmesg other than this, which is presumably when I replug the cord.
Code: | [111752.057822] igb 0000:04:00.0 enp4s0: igb: enp4s0 NIC Link is Down
[111757.046071] igb 0000:04:00.0 enp4s0: igb: enp4s0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX
[140936.765713] igb 0000:04:00.0 enp4s0: igb: enp4s0 NIC Link is Down
[140940.807976] igb 0000:04:00.0 enp4s0: igb: enp4s0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX |
Any suggestions would be helpful.
If it's just that there's something weird with this NIC under linux... I've been considering getting some 2.5 or even 5G NICs for the server and my main workstation at some point. Maybe that'd sidestep the issue. |
