|
|
Pulseaudio and sound was working perfectly well until the update of pulseaudio to version 15.
I have tried a few things but last time I touched pulseaudio, as years ago. Currently there is no sound.

if this is with openrc, check if pipewire is running - most likely the cause is that both audio servers are running
if pipewire is not running, please post pa-info output (make sure you have lsof installed, and run it from ordinary user account) |

Pipewire is not installed.
Lsof is installed
The system runs openrc

Note with alsa-plugins[pulseaudio] you should not need .asoundrc anymore, please rename/move it for now.
Let's check what you have: currently your pulseaudio default output is via onboard audio card SPDIF out.
You can verify if alsa itself works: 'pasuspender -- speaker-test -D iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 -t wav -c 2'
If not, please try this 'pasuspender -- speaker-test -D hw:1,1 -t wav -c 2'
If any of these two worked, please run 'speaker-test -t wav -c 2' and check with 'pactl list' that 'Sink #2' (Name: alsa_output.pci-0000_0b_00.0.iec958-stereo) changes state from current SUSPENDED to RUNNING
If nothing works, could you please check if you did kernel update as well? |

.asoundrc has been removed but note that now, when I pull up alsamixer I do not get to play with the volume of pulseaudio which controls all cards.
Also note that the sound was working with .asoundrc
Another detail is that the audigy card is actually the one I always used as default.
This works but no sound, even when changing it to the audigy card.
Code: | pasuspender -- speaker-test -D iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 -t wav -c 2 |
This works too, but no sound:
Code: | pasuspender -- speaker-test -D hw:1,1 -t wav -c 2 |
This also works but also no sound:
Code: | speaker-test -t wav -c 2 |
pactl list| grep State
Code: | State: SUSPENDED
State: SUSPENDED
State: SUSPENDED
State: SUSPENDED
State: SUSPENDED

Another thing I also noticed is that the Audigy card is not listed

Please have a look at your latest paste, this
Code: |
Default Sink: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.iec958-stereo
|
means you now have onboard intel card with SPDIF profile as default output.
Your audigy card is there, it is 'Card #4'
Please try changing desired ouput in pavucontrol output devices tab, there is 'Set as fallback' checkmark for that. If you do not want spdif on audigy, you can also change card profile in pavucontrol configuration tab to maybe 'Analog Stereo Output' or whatever fits, currently it is set to 'Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output'.
If that still does not work, please indicate how you plugged your output device (i.e. which jack, analog or spdif) and to which card, so I can provide speaker-test command line args to test alsa output with that. |

The cards are not showing themselves everywhere.
I have not used pavucontrol in years but just installed it.
I also had pulsemixer working.
On pulsemixer I can see all cards but changing which one I want by default does not make them work
On pavucontrol, the only output cards listed are the intel one and the GM107 Geforce.
As for SPDIF, I haver used it anywhere.
In regards to how the cards are connected: They are not connected in any way to each other physically. _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

I probably lost you, please have a look at pa-info output you provided - the card is listed there.
Code: |

device.bus = "pci"

device.product.id = "0004"

device.string = "0"

module-udev-detect.discovered = "1"
device.icon_name = "audio-card-pci"
|
Do you mean that if you run pa-info again the card is not there anymore?
Could you please post new pa-info so we can compare what's changed? |

I installed pavucontrol and pavucontrol only listed me 2 cards available which were the INTEL card and the GM107 Geforce.
I have 5 audio devices.
At the same time nothing changed from pa-info output
and at the same time pulsemixer listed me 3 cards available.
Now that a few more minutes have passed and I came back to the desktop again, pavucontrol now lists me 3 output cards and the audagy card now shows up.
However it only allows me to select analog out put.
What is happening here is that several apps are not listing all my hardware sound devices consistently.
And i still have no sound.
All this is very weird and maybe has something to do with udev because there are a few other issues happening with other hardware not working well and or missing.
Even more weird is that it has been a long time since anything has been changed in this system. Only updates have been done without touching config files.
Suddenly a few things stopped working. _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

This looks like very slow udev event processing but I cannot guess what could be causing this.
Anyway all cards in 'pactl list' should be available in pavucontrol.
BTW do you have alsa built into kernel? This could be causing all sorts of inconsistent audio behavior due to initialization order.
If yes please try again with modular alsa, i.e. 'CONFIG_SND=m' and all sound modules below that. |

As we also look into udev here, what is your udev implementation package? |

Slowly all devices started to show up on pavucontrol.
All seem to be working except the wireless G993 headset. It is not listed on the output sources.
In the meantime I also did my yearly emerge -e world and -e system and some pulseaudio confids were updated such as

This one is likely unrelated: /etc/alsa/conf.d/50-pulseaudio.conf is a configuration file adding pulseaudio i/o for alsa apps.
You seem to be using ordinary sys-fs/udev so I do not have any better idea than try looking at udev events maybe there is something holding off processing. |

HeXiLeD,
What does have to say.
What do you have in /proc/asound/devices ?
If you have several sound cards, which one do you want to use?
Pulse is a wrapper around alsa. Until alsa works, pulse cannot. _________________ Regards,

The audagy is and always been the main card which I intend to keep that way.
However I was also able to get sound on the G933 Wireless Headset Dongle at the same time as alsa.
Right now, only the mic of the Wireless Headset Dongle is working.
However, I do have sound on my audagy and pulse is now working. _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

Do you mean currently your G933 does not produce sound via alsa? Try it like this (based on your original aplay -L)
Code: | pasuspender -- speaker-test -D front:CARD=H,DEV=0 -t wav -c 2 |
If this works then there could be a problem with pulseaudio detecting the output on this device; will need verbose log for what pulseaudio does when dongle is plugged in.
Just found this https://hobo.house/2016/01/26/logitech-g933-wireless-headset-linux/ and it looks like g933 may need some logitech software to control all features. |

pasuspender -- speaker-test -D front:CARD=1,DEV=0 -t wav -c 2
gives only at the left headphone both FRONT LEFT AND FRONT RIGHT messages. The right one is silent and the headphones works perfectly on both sides.
CARD 1 is the 5700XT asrock videocard with ALC1220 from Realtec.
I removed .asoundrc since it is obsolete. _________________ Linuxpioneer

This works to test the headset. However no sound any other way.

I decided to change the usb port of the dongle and found the following:
As I plug in the dongle, the sound moves to the heaset
When unplug it, the sound goes back to the speaker.
This is very inconvenient. Prior to this issue, all it was need was to tun on the headset and the sound would go to the headset without moving from the speaker. _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

Update:
If I open pavucontrol and play with the options to select the output card, I can get switch from the headset to the speaker, however:
