Problem with graphical driver (?) for INTEL, all times different to loaded modules !

A newbie inside the gentoo world (since 1 week) with "Acer Emachines 725"-Laptop, built in graphicals card is INTEL GM4500M. Gentoo Linux Version is 5.10.68-distx86_64 Kernel cli: "autoBoot_IMAGE=gentoo ro root=803" Current vers. pixman: 0.40.0 config directory= /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d Xorg-Server version: 1.20.13 Xorg ANSI C (Module ABI) = 0.4 XorgVideo-Driver 24.1 Xorg using VT2 Kernel module driver= i915 (vers. 1.6.0) Intel depth= 24 (frame buffer bpp32) Enabled DP1 & VIRTUAL1, set DPI to 96,96 Initial output 1366x768 Output has no monitor: LVDS1,VGA1 VDPAU driver=va-gl setting LVDS1 to 361x203 VideoBus is tagged by udev as Keyboard UNKNOWN OBJECT /org/freedesktop/login1/session/_32 XF86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed, VT_GETMODE failed
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

After "startx" in CLI comes immediately a bright monitor output, without anything, no command line. TTY2 does work for new login (as root).

Checked /var/log/ the xorg.1.log, this says:
XKEYBOARD reported: could not resolve keysym XF86Brightness ................. after study of some discussion I think it is an harmless only info.
Also due to Brightness is given (see former sentence).
But then a lot of RED MARKED lines (more than 200), a conclusion in short follows now:

Load Module INTEL: intel_drv.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 2.99.917
Load Module GLX: libglx.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 1.0.0
Load fbdev: fbdev_drv.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 0.5.0
Load vesa: vesa_drv.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 2.5.0
Load fbdevhw: fbdevhw.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 0.0.2
Load Input: libinput_drv.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 1.1.0
Load Touchpad: synaptics.so compiled for 1.20.13, module version 1.9.1

So finally all 7 so-files which are new compiled >>> are with very different version numbers, partially dramatically different --> high difference

So first question: must I change this 7 so-files by hand with other data? or the version difference equal?
and second question: these different version are the reason why "startx" failed ?
or other (in header) mentioned error messages are a reason for the failure ????

PS: it is a fresh new gentoo system, only "emerge --update --deep system and --deep @world and --depclean were entered.

thank you for any idea or suggestion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

new try after emerging of some ebuilds, check of /var/log/ and now it exists a new Xorg.2.log

Says the following in last lines:
"VideoBus": device removed
systemd-logind: failed to release device: "unknown object" '/org/freedesktop/login1/session/_33'
Unload Module "libinput"
systemd-logind: releasing fd
xfc86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed VT-SETMODE failed VT_ACTIVATE failed
Server terminated successfully (0)
Closing log file

Seems to be a missing connection to "freedesktop" or I am wrong..... the other messages from former posting (different versions ....) are still there inside the first part of the Xorg.log-file.

What is the problem? question of an old man -------- PS: didn't found any solution via Google or other sources.
Thank you for reply

PS PS: this system was compiled in "OpenRC"-Version, not with systemd. So I am confused about "systemd-logind"......................

klausyaesu,

Install wgetpaste.
Reboot to get to a known state.
Run startx.
Use wgetpaste to put the entire Xorg.0.log onto a pastebin.
Post the link, so we can see the entire file.

It will either be in /var/log on in /home/<username>/ somewhere, depending on how Xorg is compiled and run.

remember please, it is a nearly fresh system. "startx" command was given from root. I checked the home of the user, no log. So her is the link of pastebin for > /var/log/Xorg.0.log

klausyaesu,

There are no errors there but the log looks truncated. The maximum post size is 64kB and I suspect that your log is bigger than that.
That's why I asked for a pastebin.

Do
Code:
wgetpaste /path/to/file
and post the link. Like this ...
Code:
$ wgetpaste /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Your paste can be seen here: http://dpaste.com/ERRJYEQPK

/path/to/file is the full path name for your Xorg.0.log, or whatever file you need to share.

You will need to install wgetpaste if you haven't already.

your pastebin can be seen here: https://dpaste.com/AHTAC6YMY

is it not the right one ?

klausyaesu,

That ends in the same place with
Code:
[  1528.296] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
[  1528.374] (II) systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69

[  1528.375] (II) systemd-logind: got pause for 13:66
[  1528.375] (II) systemd-logind: got pause for 13:73

Which is you switching to a console with Ctl-Alt-Fn.

What were you expecting startx to do and why?

Your other log ends with
Code:
[  1075.776] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
which suggests that startx found nothing to do and exited correctly.

I entered startx in the hope that a GUI will start. Wrong?

after this command, the screen is changed and is black with a background-light, nothing to see, no command-line, no graphical GUI

So next I changed to tty2 and have to new login as root, than comes the commandline back.

That is all. I am searchin for the graphical Interface which I saw on the live-cd. Thank you

and "emerge gnome" was done yesterday

If I enter now: startx gnome

system replies:
"using system config directory /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"

I checked and this is a directory with six conf.-files

what to do? 1 file is named: 10-evdev.conf

........................................................................................................................................................... ok, have a break now. Brain storming.

klausyaesu,

Without any configuration at all, by default, startx starts end exits because it finds nothing to do.
That's exactly what your startx is doing.

More exactly the default is to do
Code:
twm &
 xclock -geometry 50x50-1+1 &
 xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
 xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &
exec xterm -geometry 80x66+0+0 -name login
but none of those things are installed, so they don't work and Xorg exits.

As a test,
Code:
emerge -1av twm xclocx xterm
everything is small and the -1 (--oneshot) means that nothing is recorded in your world file, so --depclean will remove them.

When you run startx now you will get three xterms and a clock wrapped up in twm. It works perfectly well once you get the hang of it.
twm only uses the primary mouse button.

To have startx start gnome, there are some instructions on the Wiki

You may as well do tho twm test first because if that works and Gnome doesn't, we know that Xorg is good.
If you go straight for Gnome and it fails, is the problem Xorg or Gnome?

Build on what you know works, rather than putting all the pieces together and wonder which bit is broken.

okay, Sir, with deep respect:

it is my first gentoo system and no one had me told like you NOW in the last message. I have to thank you very very much and you are helpful for to send me "in the correct direction" without more failure. So all fine and I will work on it and report the outcome tomorrow.

Again thank you. Great to be here. Greetings!

Result: the warnings about different versions in the loaded modules are equal and NOT errors, only information.

And now I am able to handle the "wgetpaste"-Command.

Finally twm does work and all is fine. Case closed.

Big Thank you from Klaus
