Netgear AC1200 not recognized

I'm trying to figure out which kernel options enable the Netgear ac1200. I've followed the Gentoo wiki page about it and enabled the mentioned kernel options (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AC1200_Wireless_Adapters#Realtek_RTL8812AU). what could I be missing?

these kernel options listed under staging drivers are not present with the 5.14.4 kernel, and possibly related to why I can't get my machine to recognize my USB wifi card.
