PostPosted: Sat Jun 12, 2021 7:58 am    Post subject: KDE-plasma installation problem: `sys-devel/llvm-11.1.0` Reply with quote

Greetings, I am new to Gentoo and just finish a Gentoo basic installation from another Linux host by `chroot`, my stage3 is of `systemd` version and eselect the profile as `default/linux/amd64/17.1/systemd (stable)` when I configured the system. I ebuild a Linux 5.4.109 kernel to avoid Nvidia conflict against kernel and `make menuconfig` without `nouveau` nvidia driver since by which I experienced a failure when my system had been compiling it. This Issue appeared during I run the command line
Code:
emerge --ask kde-plasma/plasma-meta
from https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/pl, which had been failed at `sys-devel/lvm-11.10` compiling.

The output of `emerge --info`:
saito / # emerge --info '=sys-devel/llvm-11.1.0::gentoo'
Portage 3.0.18 (python 3.9.4-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.1/desktop/plasma/systemd, gcc-10.3.0, glibc-2.33, 5.4.0-74-generic x86_64)

Where the kernel version is of my chroot host Linux. I am prefer to ebuild a lower version of sys-devel/llvm for instance the version 10.x.y to fix this but I am not sure if it will break the entire dependencies, so I ask the professional suggestions here the Honored Gentoo Community.

Here is the content of my build.log, /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/llvm-11.1.0/temp/build.log:
http://sprunge.us/lBgiz6

Here is the rust build log:
http://sprunge.us/RyWiaD

Here is the x11-driver/nvidia build log:
http://sprunge.us/th179G

Please check and fix this, Thanks a lot!

Welcome to gentoo forums.

You should post /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/llvm-11.1.0/temp/build.log with wgetpaste or transfer.sh

Thank you, here is the output of wgetpaste http://sprunge.us/lBgiz6. I switched several paste sites, this log file is too large to paste on them.

Code:
lib/Target/AMDGPU/AMDGPUGenInstrInfo.inc:7463:5: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

Segmentation fault usually are caused by hardware issue.

Thanks, but I have no AMDGPU at all, is there possible to change the make.conf to fix it?

Ah, so first thing you should change is variable VIDEO_CARDS because you don't seem to have set it up correctly (you have "amdgpu fbdev intel nouveau radeon radeonsi vesa dummy v4l"), see wiki page.
You can also disable llvm_targets_amdgpu use flag from llvm package.

--edit--
Set "-march=native -O2 -pipe" as CFLAGS in your make.conf

Great! I am trying, thanks a lot.

By passing the VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia intel" in make.conf, the compile of llvm finished, but the following compiling of dev-lang/rust-1.51.0-r2 failed with the build.log here: http://sprunge.us/RyWiaD. I have built one independently while wondering whether it breaks the dependencies of KDE/plasma.

Again internal compiler error: Segmentation fault, try to check your hardware (RAM, cpu temp,..) and look in dmesg.

Thanks again, I have checked the dmesg : http://sprunge.us/BxvmcV, while the time it happened did not match.

Very greetings for thy patient and nice reply, I just finished my installation as A KDE/plasma DE after experienced other some bugs and some kernel errors. But your nice patient suggestion supported me in this long day, thank you again!

http://sprunge.us/BxvmcV:
[ 6059.754088] mce: CPU11: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
This should never happen in a properly maintained system. CPU overheating can lead to a variety of illogical results, including miscompiling a program to the point that the program malfunctions later, after the CPU has returned to normal operating temperature. What internal temperature does your system have, both at steady state and during heavy compilation?

Greetings, here is the normal temperature 'http://dpaste.com/5UR8EVLU4. The last time point(in the dmesg I post) above threshold is three hour before I post rust compiling failure, but I don't think the temperature was much less than less than the threshold while I compiled those packages in sys-devel/* by hearing the Decibel of My CPU Fan which is a 360 cooler. The most damaged compilation was compiling the nouveau had not been post by, since there was only a picture taken by a phone while the computer stopped totally and leaving without any dmesg and other analogies. I experienced this type of stopping at first when I run BOINC in my docker while it was operating a task cuda-GPU required. I post it to them, you know ......

Your idle temperatures look fine. The sensors report that 86C is high, and personally I'd like to stay at least 5C below "high" just for extra safety. How well can this system cool itself under heavy load? Fast fans are only useful if the fan can efficiently replace the hot air with room temperature air. If the air vents are too small, or are obstructed by dust, the fan may offer little relief even at its highest speed.

Thanks, There are other three Fans installed on my full tower metal case, those which send air out of the case in charge of a Asus motherboard, and then I can test the temp.
