For some dumb reason, when I installed Gentoo on this laptop last week, I skipped wpa-supplicant in favor of iwd. Wifi works fine once it's connected, but it does not want to automatically connect to my preferred connection. I ticked the Automatically Connect box. I've given it priorities from 0 to 99. But no matter what I do, it will not connect to wifi without operator intervention.

So it's obvious I missed something somewhere with the configuration, but what?

The following recent Gentoo Forums post in the thread '[SOLVED]NetworkManager WiFi unavailable' about NetworkManager and iwd might help:

I fixed it... somehow.

I switch the install from stable to testing, and upon rebooting after all that rebuilding was done, it automatically connected right away. Don't ask which of the 475 new/updated/rebuilt packages did the trick. It Just Works now, and I'm not about to argue the point.
