After installed my new Gentoo, I have a lot of user in the login windows (at, cron, guest, postmaster, sshd, www). I would like to know if I can delete all this users.

He probably means the users you see by doing "cat /etc/passwd". They are users used by the system and certain programs. You can better not delete them. Some users are on your system for security reasons.
Programs such as Apache and MySQL need an "owner", and it is insecure to assign these daemons to root (imagine what would happen if Apache were to be compromised and suddenly had write permission to all files on the system). Oops.
You can maybe remove them from appearing in your login window, depending what you use for logging in. |

If you mean the users on your KDM login screen, you can remove those using the KDE Control Center. Since those are system accounts, it's not recommended that you actually delete the accounts.
To edit the users that are displayed on the login screen, open the KDE Control Center, expand the System option, and click Login Manager.
Over on the Users tab you can edit which ones show up and which ones don't. Note that if you will need to click Administrator Mode to actually change the options since you shouldn't be logging into KDE as root. _________________ -David |
