Just wanted to say hello.
I been using Debian Linux since 2008. I used Arch and Void for short periods of time as well. I thought I'd give Gentoo a go. I have not yet installed it, I been busy with work. But I would like to make this my daily OS.
I know what I am getting into, maybe it's advanced for me. But I really want a distro that gives me 100% control and choice.
Really looking forward to contribute anyway I can to this community in the future as well. |

Welcome to Gentoo. Gentoo is like the Roach Motel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roach_Motel You can check in, but you can't check out. _________________ Andy Figueroa

Eviscerate,
Welcome.
You don't install Gentoo. Gentoo is a toolkit. You design and install your own Linux distro using the Gentoo toolkit.
Every Gentoo install is different. That's a feature, not a bug.
Gentoo is the packages manager and the ::gentoo repo. Everything else is $UPSTREAM.
Have fun with Gentoo, that's the only reason to do it. _________________ Regards,

I forced myself to use Gentoo as my daily driver in my laptop. It's been only 20 days, so doesn't anywhere compare to the experience of most of the other forum members, but I just feel Gentoo is much easier to handle & not daunting after you get past the initial installation - mainly because of its modular nature. It's also made me appreciate the linux ecosystem a lot and the hard work of developers to keep things in one piece, in a way that I would have never imagined in a binary distro. |

I am back, it took me 8 hours to setup and get into a working WM. I tried installing NVIDIA proprietary drivers and messed things up beyond my comprehension. Not only that but when I came back another day to give it another try my nvme died. It's not showing up in any OS or even the motherboard bios. I ordered a new drive online today, so I am not part of the club yet. |

Ever since installing gentoo I've been feeling a bit strange. There are no issues except those I caused myself, and my computer actually does what I tell it to.
Am I in the place where normal things don't happen very often? |
