Hello there!
I get the error "Segmentation fault" when trying to launch ST (simple-terminal/suckless-terminal) inside of DWM.
If you have any experience on this, feel free to reply.

Adjusted the title a bit to make the issue more clear.Chiitoo

So why did you switch your profile to hardened? Choose one of the desktop profiles.

And why did you switch to unstable/testing? The handbook recommends to stay on stable. See: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Full/Portage#Testing.
Quote:
The testing branch is exactly what it says - Testing. If a package is in testing, it means that the developers feel that it is functional but has not been thoroughly tested. Users using the testing branch might very well be the first to discover a bug in the package in which case they should file a bug report to let the developers know about it.

Beware though; using the testing branch might incur stability issues, imperfect package handling (for instance wrong/missing dependencies), too frequent updates (resulting in lots of building) or broken packages. Users that do not know how Gentoo works and how to solve problems, we recommend to stick with the stable and tested branch.

Stay on stable - and choose unstable/testing for the few packages where really need the latest version. See: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Full/Portage#Testing_particular_versions.

I was on hardened from the start, I just thought that it was more secure and that it was worth it.
I'll make sure to switch to the default and stable profile.
Thanks in advance!

FreeMind1,

Don't go back to stable. That's not trivial as several packages cannot be downgraded. At least, not easily.

A segfault happens when something tries to access memory it does not own.
We know that its triggered by starting suckless-terminal. It could be a problem with suckless-terminal itself or one of the libraries that it uses.
There will be more information at the end of dmesg.

We need dmesg after the error, or at least, the end of dmesg.

I think I know why this is;
I'm running an encrypted Gentoo install
and my swap is inside of the encrypted LVM.
I've already reset my system,
so should I just skip the LVM part and then only encrypt my root partition?
Or is there an easy way to gain access to an encrypted swap volume group?

FreeMind1,

Its not related to an encrypted install.
If swap is in its own Volume Group, you unlock that jast as you do with the Volume Group that holds the root logical volume.

If swap and root are both in the same volume group that are unlocked at the same time.

Swap is used only for dynamically allocated memory, so starting a programethat has yet to do anything will nop put any pressure on RAM.
We won't fix it by guessing. We need the error messages.

... hardened profile, unstable/testing, LVM, encrypted partitions, encrypted swap ...

It seems that you do everything to make your life as hard as possible.

Why don't you start with a default install and become acquainted with Gentoo? Then, if you know how everything works and how you can solve problems, you can proceed to the more advanced topics. Step by step - and not everything at once...

FreeMind1,

libc-2.33.so is glibc. You check bugs.gentoo.org for existing glibc-2.33 bugs and if you are really lucky, a patch that portage can apply,
If you are the first to hit this problem you file a bug with all the requested information, including the copy/paste text of the error message.

As its not possible to downgrade glibc, you wait for a patch or a workaround. With other packages, you downgrade the package.

If yo are really really lucky, its already fixed and you need to update to get the fix.

This is one of the features of running an all testing install. Sometimes it breaks.

Ok, so I sorta figured out how to launch st and what the error was:
Locale.

I submitted the bug report and what not. They said that it most likely had nothing to do with glibc.
And... They were right. Unless glibc has something to do with locale, I don't really know.

Anyways, I'm able to launch st and dmenu, etc. From within xterm by typing LC_ALL=en_DK.UTF-8 and then the desired program, gives me temporary functionality. And using this method I'm able to launch st.

The thing is that when I type this command the command doesn't get executed successfully except for the command "dmenu_run".
What I mean by this is that: it executes, but then it stops, it freezes, I'm still able to CTRL+C to stop it but other than that, it's frozen

Is there any way to fix this?
Is there a way to set the locale for X or dwm, dmenu, st, and slstatus permanently?
