When I attempt to create the initramfs using genkernel after compiling the linux kernel proper, it says the module directory for the kernel is non-existent. Which is true, but why? Even the /lib/modules folder wasn't created. I am a noob at this, but each time I have installed Gentoo, this folder was there. Am I doing something wrong when compiling the kernel? I can't really provide any logs, but I can type out what the error says on genkernel.

Code:
*Using kernel config /usr/src/linux-5.4.97-gentoo/.config
*Current kernel's LOCALVERSION is set to ''; Will ignore set --kernel localversion value '-x86_64' because kernel was not build..

* initramfs: >> initializing
           >> appending ...

           >> appending modules cpio data
*ERROR: '/lib/modules/5.4.97-gentoo' does not exist! Did you forget to compile kernel before building initramfs?..

I have tried it with --no-ramdisk-modules and even creating the modules folder with mkdir with no luck.
What am I doing wrong? Apologies if I've embedded wrong.

Hi TheSpiritingPoet,

Welcome to Gentoo.

How did you compile the kernel, manually? Besides compiling and installing kernel itself, it is necessary to compile and install its modules:

Code:
make modules
make modules_install

He comes back with 6 cartons of milk.
- Why did you buy 6 cartons of milk?
- They had eggs.

Yes, manually. I fear this has all stemmed from me executing "make modules install" and not "make modules_install".

Will edit this post if this is the case.

EDIT: Remember your underscores people!
