Hmmm might be a bug in zenity or an xml parsing error with the one of the 3 languages it translates.
can you post the your /etc/locale.gen ?

Edit try
Code:
emerge -avuDN1 dev-libs/glib x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf x11-libs/gtk+ x11-libs/libX11 x11-libs/pango x11-libs/libnotify net-libs/webkit-gtk dev-util/itstool sys-devel/gettext virtual/pkgconfig app-portage/elt-patches app-arch/xz-utils dev-util/desktop-file-utils x11-misc/shared-mime-info dev-libs/libxml2 dev-lang/python-exec

Many thanks again.

I am running the emerge command you recommended.

BTW

Code:
net-misc/openssh-8.1_p1-r3

has been failed to emerge as well.

Could that be contributing to the problem?

Regards

MF

The locale.gen file looks like this:

Code:
localhost /home/mikef # more /etc/locale.gen
# /etc/locale.gen: list all of the locales you want to have on your system.
# See the locale.gen(5) man page for more details.
#
# The format of each line:
# <locale name> <charset>
#
# Where <locale name> starts with a name as found in /usr/share/i18n/locales/.
# It must be unique in the file as it is used as the key to locale variables.
# For non-default encodings, the <charset> is typically appended.
#
# Where <charset> is a charset located in /usr/share/i18n/charmaps/ (sans any
# suffix like ".gz").
#
# All blank lines and lines starting with # are ignored.
#
# For the default list of supported combinations, see the file:
# /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED
#
# Whenever glibc is emerged, the locales listed here will be automatically
# rebuilt for you.  After updating this file, you can simply run `locale-gen`
# yourself instead of re-emerging glibc.

#en_US ISO-8859-1
#en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8

All locales are commented out in your /etc/locale.gen file. That's not a good idea. You should pick at least one (UTF-8 recommended) and generate it with:
Code:
locale-gen

Many thanks for your comment.

I have fixed the locale-gen problem.

Regards

MF

I notice that a bug is mentioned here:

https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/gnome-extra/zenity

The bug write up lives here:

https://bugs.gentoo.org/706524

The version of
Code:
gnome-extra/
zenity
I am using is
Code:
3.32.0:0
.

I think it is the one that has a plus sign assigned it in the list of ebuilds given on the package webpage.

The date is Mon 30 Dec 2019 for what is called the "bump" version.

But there is a newer one which includes the bug fix.

It was added on Jan 27, 2020.

If I have the bump version at present what is the command to recruit and specify the bug fixed ebuild version and install that in my gentoo environment?

Comments appreciated.

Regards

There's currently only one version of gnome-extra/zenity in the gentoo repository, namely 3.32.0. You already have it.

I noticed you enabled the ccache feature. Please try to emerge zenity again with:
Code:
FEATURES="-ccache" emerge -1 gnome-extra/zenity

I also noticed you defined the FEATURES variable twice in your /etc/portage/make.conf configuration file. I would merge those two lines into a single one:
Code:
FEATURES="split-elog buildpkg ccache"

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions.

I ran the command you recommended.

Code:
Gnome-extra/zenity
still failed to emerge with the emake failed error.

I have tidied up the
Code:
FEATURES
entries in the
Code:
make.conf
file. I don't need
Code:
ccache
any more.
